A hand held microscope? Is that cool?

[Click on the title for the link]

Why do I post very less here? For one, I post about cool medical devices on my medical devices blog. So you see fewer products here.

Secondly, most products are not so cool. Most products are extensions of pre - existing cool stuff.

Then there are a few products that stand apart. A hand held microscope? Now that has got to be cool.

Think of the unending possibilities. You could lend yourself to exploring the world around you with the comfort of using a torch light.

Attach a camera to the scope (if possible, I haven't personally tested it), and you have some amazing photographs to play with.

I definitely think this scores a cool!

What do you think?

Some Thoughts on Innovation

While what they are doing in this lab at Georgia Tech is commendable, it is sad to still see "Accessibility" as a label, and not an essential component of design. One needs to see a change in this trend, and the sooner this happens the better.

Accessibility is not a design burden. It is an essential path to making products easier to use. This would not just be for those who have special requirements. Some, if not most of the changes will be very good for all users!

I hope to come back here, soon, and more often to rave about what design changes companies are making to catch up with accessibility!

Welcome to the land of Gorilla pods...an interesting product with a somewhat sad name

[Click on title for link to product website]

Okay, we all want to be slim. We want the women to be just skin deep (nope not me, I mean society; my preferences are not aired here, nor anywhere). We want the products we use to have small names too...but is there a point where things get ridiculous?

Looks like it is at the point where things get named...pod all the time. Yes, we know it means feet and also a pod in which the seed for a new plant nests, or do people now know it just as a music player? Whatever infamy iPods have brought to the word, I wish people named their new products differently...

However, the product itself is very good. A flexible base as a tripod is quite an improvement over the thin, wiry digital camera tripods that really don't serve any purpose.

It is also interesting how the product is packaged. Purported to be environment friendly, the product comes with an option for reduced pricing and no packaging!! Quite an excellent marketing idea if you ask me...

Is a blog, a product? Is it cool?

[Clicking on title will take you to takeitapart.net]

I would argue some blogs are. I don't think this blog as a product has matured, but it is a very good start. I always love taking things apart, like the iBook keyboard set up. It is amazing how little info is out there. I was not able to put it back, and a slimy mac tech guy wanted to charge me the sky for it. Maybe, one day, we would know how to put things back because of sites like this -- or atleast, what not to take apart!
